28th of July is marked every year as World Hepatitis Day. This global event focuses the impact of health threatening viral hepatitis. This is with the aim to reduce the burden of disease and to emphasize the treatment and control of infection  world wide. Different organization works to educate people and spread awareness about Hepatitis Viruses.

WHAT IS HEPATITIS 

Hepatitis is a disease includes liver inflammation and liver infection, it can damage your liver and effects the normal functioning throughout the body. Inflamed liver can't perform it's function properly. This can be an acute (short term) and  chronic (long term) infection.

The five main distinct Hepatitis are - hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis D and hepatitis E. Each is caused by viruses and each virus has different health impact.

HEPATITIS A

Hepatitis A virus causes through contaminated food and water. Symptoms include fatigue, stomach pain, dark urine and it can be lasts for two months. supportive vaccine are available to prevent Hepatitis A virus.

HEPATITIS B

Hepatitis B is liver infection caused by hepatitis B Virus, It is the leading cause of  liver cancer. it can be transmitted person to person by various ways such as using needle and syringes, sharing personal tooth brushes or razors, sexual contact and from mother to baby at birth. Symptoms may include fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, belly pain and joint pain. Vaccines are available to prevent hepatitis b virus.

HEPATITIS C

Hepatitis C is caused by hepatitis C  Virus and it is also the leading cause of liver cancer and liver cirrhosis. it is caused by the transmission of infectious blood or other body fluids from one person to another.It gives life threatening complications and no vaccine is available for hepatitis C. 

HEPATITIS D

Hepatitis D is a serious liver disease caused by Hepatitis D Virus. It is also called delta hepatitis. it requires hepatitis B virus to replicate. It leads to liver carcinoma and liver related death.

HEPATITIS E

Hepatitis E is a liver infection caused by Hepatitis E Virus. this virus is commonly transmitted through water and spread with the contamination by the feces of infected person. symptoms of hepatitis E include fatigue, poor appetite, stomach pain and jaundice. No vaccine of hepatitis E is currently available.
